What is a Doula?
A doula is a trained and knowledgeable birth partner who provides continuous non-medical support for a laboring mother. Unlike a doctor, nurse, or midwife, a doula remains with the mother for the entirety of her labor. A doula provides prenatal preparation and physical, informational, and emotional support during labor. A doula also provides support and encouragement for the mother's partner, enabling both to comfort and support the mother during labor. |
